background data, information and news about Libreville and Gabon in
general. At the bottom of this page you will find links
to some of the better (and fairly up-to-date) ones I have stumbled
on!

"The pure African experience" begins as soon as you
enter Operation Loango's home page and are greeted by the
sounds of birds, frogs and elephants. From
here you will be taken on a virtual tour of Loango National
Park and the wildest side of Gabon! Read all about
Operation Loango's conservation efforts, extensive research
and echo-tourism developments in the region.
Details on charter flights , excursions, facilities,
prices, reservations etc are all neatly laid out and self
explanatory. Very professional site and the photos are
exquisite. Take a look ... you will be dead
impressed! Better still pack your bag and go see the
REAL GABON! You will absolutely love it!

affected by mispronunciation and jungle fever.

A little gem
covering both Gabon and São Tomé e Príncipe. What I like
about this book is the candid and no-nonsense way in which it
is written while still being very informative.
Everything you need to know about how, what, where, when and
why is in there!

Tour operator : Equasud based in
Libreville. Site offers an overview of various tourists
destinations in Gabon, what, when and how to see. Nice photos. |
 |
Tour operator : Mistral Voyages have offices in
Marseille, Libreville, Port- Gentil and São Tomé. The site is
quite informative and well put together - very "flash"! I've
heard good things about their services here in Libreville ...
question is, can they help a person whose French is not
parfait? |
 |
Tour operator : Eurafrique-Voyages this site
was obviously created by someone who recently discovered Macromedia
Flash. If you are not dizzy by the time you have finished
surfing, you should work in a discotheque! At least it is in
French and English (of sorts ) and worth checking out. The newly re-opened "Le
Village d'Evaro" in Lambaréné looks like a nice place to
visit! |

HOTELS IN LIBREVILLE
 |
Le Meridien Re-Ndama one of the better hotels in
town with quite a funky facade. The building and grounds look
well maintained ... an anomaly in Libreville! Situated close
to town, although right on the waterfront with a great view, there
is no beach and the surf brings in all sorts of
unmentionables. Tennis courts, nice pool and very average gym. |
 |
Atlantique Hotel a large sprawling structure right
on the beach front. Photos on website give a good
indication of how wonderful it could look with a regular coat of
paint. The beach is really quite nice for walks (with shoes)
and their Sunday brunch is very popular. Quite far in the
northern part of town close to the airport. |
 |
Intercontinental Okoume Palace supposedly top
rated but in dire need of renovation, a landscapist and a new
chef. Decent enough pool and very good fitness centre, average
shopping arcade, nice ocean view. You have to cross a 4 lane
highway to get to the beach (wear shoes) so watch out for those
crazy taxi
drivers! |

Thomas C. Barry Travel Fellowship Summer 2002- An
article published by Colleen Carey entitled Local
Environmental NGOs in Gabon. A brief (ideological) but
quite amusing account of her time spent working in Gabon. I do
not know why but I kind of enjoyed the excerpt "My Gabonese
friends would often say wistfully, "If only we had been colonized by
the English..." It's hard to say whether they are justified." Gasp!
